Nanu'ávaha Fourth Grade Lesson 2: Ownership of Land and Resources

Description:

Lesson plans for Lesson 2 of the Fourth Grade curriculum. Students will learn that many concepts, such as “right” and “ownership” are actually cultural constructs that form the basis of paradigms – theories or groups of ideas about how something should be done, made, or thought about. Segueing from the first lesson on tribal pre-contact territories, students will understand some of the reasons why Native peoples came into conflict with Euro- Americans over issues of property ownership and learn the importance of definition in identifying what may seem to be basic concepts. This lesson will set the foundation for the upcoming content materials regarding land tenure.
